§ 02 · Berth · The Problem · Six places most Tampa sites fail

ADA lawsuits tripled 2018–2024. Most failures are in the same six places.

You’re worried about

  • Getting a demand letter for an ADA violation you didn’t know existed.
  • Lighthouse scoring 95+ while the site is unusable on a screen-reader.
  • Settlement quotes of $25K when a $500 audit + 30 days of fixes could have prevented it.
  • “Compliant” claims you can’t back up with documented evidence.

Failure mode · 01

Contrast ratios.

WCAG 2.1 AA: 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI elements. Most sites have at least one colour pair below threshold — often a brand-colour CTA failing small-text contrast. One swap fixes every instance sitewide. The audit finds them all.

Most common · easiest to fix once found

Failure mode · 02

Keyboard navigation.

Tab order broken, focus indicator invisible, modals that trap focus and don’t release, custom dropdowns that don’t respond to arrow keys. Keyboard-only and screen-reader users get stuck.

Lawsuit-trigger · invisible to mouse users

Failure mode · 03

Alt text on images.

“image1.jpg” isn’t alt text. Neither is “decorative image.” We audit every img tag and ask: useful for a screen-reader user, or noise?

Per-image judgment · machines can’t help

Failure mode · 04

Form labels + error states.

Placeholder text isn’t a label. Errors shown only by red border aren’t announced. Forms are the highest-risk surface for ADA lawsuits because they directly block conversion.

Highest-risk surface · per form testing

Failure mode · 05

Heading hierarchy.

Skipped levels, multiple H1s, decorative headings. Screen-reader users navigate by heading; if your H1 is followed by an H3, the document outline is broken. Quick to fix, quick to miss.

Structural · easy to find & fix

Failure mode · 06 · And the math

ARIA misuse. And the math.

ARIA roles applied incorrectly are worse than no ARIA at all — they create false promises to screen readers. Common offender: custom dropdowns labelled as menus that don’t behave like menus. If you’re in healthcare, legal, government, or education, the legal exposure is real and growing. $500 audit. $5K–$25K typical settlement. The math isn’t close.

Risk × cost · the audit pays for itself

§ 03 · Berth · The Position · Machines cover 30. Humans cover 70.

Lighthouse catches ~30% of WCAG issues.
The other 70 require humans with real screen-readers.

If your site is healthy and you trust automated tooling, run Lighthouse yourself — that’s a legitimate path. We’ll tell you so. The trouble is that automated scans cover the criteria a machine can check (contrast, missing alt attributes, missing form labels), and miss the ones a human has to test: does the screen-reader actually announce the error? does keyboard tab order make sense? does that ARIA role lie about what the widget does?

Plus: Lighthouse outputs a list of 100s of issues with no prioritisation. Yours to triage. Our audit ranks the top 20 by legal-risk × fix-effort, so you know what to fix first — and what 30-minute fixes will cover three quarters of your exposure.

The price isn’t the cost of an audit. The price is senior judgment on top of automated results, plus a defensible compliance document with dated evidence. In settlement negotiations, that’s typically the difference between a $5K outcome and a $25K one.

FAQ · 01

Will this make me ADA-compliant for sure?

No one can promise that. What we can promise: a defensible WCAG 2.1 AA audit by a senior tester with real assistive tech, a dated conformance statement, and a prioritised fix list. In settlement negotiations, that documentation is typically the difference between a $5K and a $25K outcome. Any vendor selling guaranteed immunity is selling something we don’t.

Legal reality · honest framing

FAQ · 02

Why $500 if I can run Lighthouse for free?

Lighthouse catches ~30% of WCAG issues — the ones a machine can check. The other 70% require humans with real screen-readers. Plus prioritisation: Lighthouse gives you 100s of issues with no triage. Our audit ranks the top 20 by risk × effort.

30 / 70 split · the whole point

FAQ · 03

What’s the conformance statement actually for?

Two uses: a footer link on your site claiming WCAG 2.1 AA conformance with a date, and a document handed to legal counsel during demand-letter response. Dated evidence of due diligence is the most useful thing in settlement.

Use cases · footer + counsel

FAQ · 04

Do I need to fix all 100 issues you find?

No. Fix the top 20 first — they cover ~3/4 of legal exposure. The other 80 are largely cosmetic or minor. The 30-day roadmap is structured so the highest-risk items ship first; the rest queue.

Triage · top 20 covers 3/4 of exposure

FAQ · 05

My site is on Wix / Squarespace / a builder. Can you still audit?

Yes — the audit doesn’t depend on the platform. The fix list might, though: some builder platforms restrict what you can change. We’ll tell you on the audit which issues are platform-fixable vs. baked-in limitations. For severely restricted platforms (some Wix templates, some old builders), the honest recommendation is sometimes a redesign onto WordPress rather than retro-fitting.
